  9. Here is a list of some important files and directories on the disc.

  11. setup.exe             Installation program for Windows.

  15. view.exe              File Browser/Uncompressor for MS-DOS.

  17. qrz.exe               DOS callsign lookup program.  You can also run this
  18.                       directly from the DOS prompt by switching to your
  19.                       CDROM drive and typing qrz instead of view or go.

  32. Quick Start Instructions:
  33.

  35.   Windows 95:
  36.     You can install the program icon by selecting the "Start"
  37.     menu and choosing "Run".  At the Run box, type: "D:\setup",
  38.     assuming 'D' is your cdrom drive.
  39.  
  40.   Windows 3.1/NT:
  41.     Go to "File" menu under program manager and choose Run.  At the
  42.     Command Line box, type: "D:\setup", assuming 'D' is your cdrom drive.
  43.     This will install a group folder with icons for this cdrom.
  44.  
  45.   MSDOS Quick Start:
  46.     Change to your CDROM drive and type "view".
  47.     Example:
  48.           C:\> D:
  49.           D:\> view
  50.  
  51. Using the 00_INDEX.HTM:
  52.  
  53. We have included 00_index.htm files so the user may use a Web browser
  54. to view our disc.
  55.  
  56. In order to view this disc using these 00_index.htm files, point your
  57. Web browser to the root level 00_index.htm file.
  58.  
  59. For example, in Netscape/Mosaic:
  60.  
  61.         1) Choose File/Open File (or File/Open Local File with Mosaic)
  62.         2) Choose your CDROM Drive under "Drives"
  63.         3) Select the 00_index.htm file
  64.         4) Click on OK
  65.  
  66. The 00_index.htm files have been tested under Netscape 1.1 (Windows,
  67. Macintosh, and FreeBSD), Netscape 1.22 (Windows), Netscape 2.0b2,
  68. Mosaic 2.00 (Final Beta), and Microsoft Internet Explorer.

  74. To make browsing the disc easier, we have included the program WinView
  75. for Windows, and the program VIEW for MSDOS on the CDROM.  These programs
  76. allow you to page through index files, browse through directories on the
  77. CD, view documentation and uncompress/install the program(s) you want
  78. onto your hard disk.

  99. This edition includes the all new QRZ/32 database search software designed
  100. specifically for Windows 95 and Windows NT.  This new 32-bit program
  101. includes several new features such as simplified printing, automatic QSL
  102. card generation (and printout), a built-in simple text editor, adjustable
  103. fonts and colors, and a new user interface. It is the most powerful and
  104. advanced version of QRZ yet!

  106. (Note: QRZ/32 does not run under Windows 3.x, and does not work with
  107. Win32/s, however, the original, 16-bit QRZ Windows program, QRZII.EXE is
  108. still included on this CDROM and continues to be supported for users of
  109. Windows 3.x);

  112. More Email Addresses!
  113.  
  114. Email Address Database QRZ was born on the Internet and is today one of the
  115. most popular amateur radio Internet sites anywhere.  Over the past year,
  116. we've been collecting the email addresses of amateur radio operators from
  117. around the world.  Now, for the first time we are able to share them with
  118. you as a component of the main QRZ database.  There are over 32,000 e-mail
  119. addresses available on this CDROM. The email addresses are displayed right
  120. along with the regular callsign data, whenever they are available.  If
  121. you're on the Internet (http://www.qrz.com), it's easy to add your e-mail
  122. address to the database.

  124. By email, you can add or update your e-mail address by sending a short
  125. message to:

  139. Macintosh Support!

  141. Macintosh Support - This edition introduces a new Macintosh callsign lookup
  142. program (thanks to Mike Kelley, N6ZOC) called callfind.hqx as well as a
  143. Macintosh files and utilities area.

  146. Built-in Image Viewer!
  147.  
  148. QRZ V7 now includes a multi-format image viewer and a small (400+) but
  149. growing collection of digital QSL cards.  These card images are made
  150. instantly available as you browse through the main callsign database.
  151. You'll find a new menu item (Lookup->Images) which you can use to view the
  152. digital QSL cards (or other images) while running QRZ.

  154. It's easy to add your favorite photo, QSL card or other image to the next
  155. QRZ CDROM and have it associated with your callsign using any of the
  156. methods below.  If your image is already in gif format (400x300 max) then
  157. you can send it to us over the Internet by using anonymous FTP at:

  161. You can also mail us your image on floppy disk.  We prefer .GIF formats and
  162. will convert your image to .GIF format if necessary.  We reserve the right
  163. to reject any image that we feel is inappropriate.

  169. Your card, floppy, photo, etc., will not normally be returned to you.  If
  170. you must have your copy back, then please include a self addressed stamped
  171. envelope (SASE) with your letter.  Scanning at QRZ is generally done in
  172. batches so it may be a few weeks before it appears on the Internet and
  173. several months before it hits the next CD.

  175. Callsign Database Updates
  176.  
  177. This edition contains new FCC callsign databases (last updated May 96) and
  178. a completely reorganized shareware collection.  We now have listings from
  179. USA, Canada, Mexico, UK, Italy, Turkey, Monaco, Brazil, Portugal, Cuba, and
  180. miscellaneous listings from everywhere.  Since the introduction of our
  181. online DX callsign registration form, we've begun to take on hundreds of
  182. new, exotic callsigns each month.  We're still looking for more DX callsign
  183. databases, and you could qualify for a free subscription to QRZ for helping
  184. us obtain more countries.  For more info contact the author at:

  187. Note: Neither QRZ or Walnut Creek CDROM edits or updates the FCC callsign
  188. data.  If the U.S. information contained in the QRZ Ham Radio CDROM is
  189. incorrect for any callsign, all corrections must be done directly with the
  190. FCC.  The easiest way to do this is to fill out a Form 610 and send it to
  191. the FCC.  The master database at QRZ (http://www.qrz.com) is updated weekly
  192. with fresh FCC information.

  194. Note that we cannot guarantee the accuracy of the callsign database for any
  195. country including the USA.

  198. International Shareware, Info and Mod Files
  199.  
  200. As we continue to improve the quality of our shareware and public domain
  201. data files, we've added a major new section of German/English language
  202. amateur radio files.  Be sure to check them out under X:\german (use your
  203. CDROM drive letter instead of X').  You will also notice that the file
  204. indexes are larger, more complete and include descriptions, file sizes and
  205. timestamps.

  208. QRZ on the Internet
  209.  
  210. http://www.qrz.com always comes as one of the first hits when you search
  211. InfoSeek for 'callsign'.  Over 150,000 have visited the QRZ Web Site which
  212. features a Netscape enhanced interface.

  214. http://www.qrz.com also provides a point and click interface for our
  215. complete anonymous FTP server, our online catalog as well as the master
  216. copy of the QRZ Callsign Database (with online GIF image display), an
  217. online email registration form, and an online DX callsign entry form.

  219. Be sure and visit the QRZ Anonymous FTP Server on the Internet
  220. (ftp.qrz.com), and/or the mirror site at wcarchive.cdrom.com.  All of the
  221. files found on the QRZ CDROM are there as well as any new updates since the
  222. last edition.  If you would like to contribute shareware or public domain
  223. files of amateur radio interest, you are encouraged to FTP your material to
  224. ftp.qrz.com. You should login with user id anonymous and your e-mail
  225. address as the password.
